Instructions
  1. Into 50ml of warm water, empty the sachet of yeast, stir and leave for about 15 minutes. Do not make the water too hot as it will kill the yeast.
  2. Into a large bowl, mix the flour with the salt.
  3. Tip in the yeast mix and stir together with a knife until everything starts to form a slightly sticky dough. If you need more water start tipping it in gradually to bring everything together
  4. Lightly flour your worktop and tip out the dough and start kneading.
  5. Form into a ball and place into a clean and lightly oiled bowl. Place cling film over the top and leave for about an hour to rise in a warm room. It should double in size.
  6. Once risen, remove the clingfilm and prod the dough with your finger tips to knock out the air. Then tip out onto your work surface and knead agin for about 5 minutes. Form into a oval shape and place into a lightly oiled 500g loaf tin. Cover the surface again with clingfilm or a damp tea towel and leave to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. In the meantime, heat your oven to 180 fan, 200 degrees centigrade or gas mark 6
  8. Sprinkle some flour over the top of your dough and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  9. Tip out onto a wire rack, tap the bottom to make sure it sounds hollow, then leave to cool before serving.
